The John Newton Lecture

The annual John Newton Lecture was first started in 2011 when it was hosted by the West Inishowen History and Heritage Society. The lecture series seeks to continue the legacy of John Newton with thought-provoking lectures combining themes of history and social justice. Previous lecturers include the world's leading expert on the life of John Newton - Marylynn Rouse from the John Newton Project and homeless campaigner, Fr. Peter McVerry.

This year's lecture entitled "Until all are free" will explore the work of modern day abolitionists - working to end slavery in the 21st century. The John Newton Lecture will take place on Thursday 11 April at 8pm in The Exchange, Castle Avenue, Buncrana. Admission is free and there will be free refreshments.
In 2018, the 7th Annual Lecture explored peace and reconciliation from the perspective of the last 100 years in Northern Ireland.
